Almond Mango Protein Smoothie
Variety is the spice of life, so they say. If you’ve been using berries in your smoothies day after day, you might be experiencing flavor fatigue. I like to alternate between berries and another low-glycemic fruit family: stone fruits. Examples are peaches, nectarines, plums, cherries, apricots and…MANGOS!
MANGOS ARE KNOWN AS THE “KING OF FRUITS.” THEY’RE HIGH IN FIBER, VITAMINS, MINERALS + ANTIOXIDANTS.
Translation…they’re extremely good for you!
Speaking of spicing things up, this protein smoothie has a Mediterranean vibe to it with medjool dates and cardamom! Feel free to experiment with other spices, like cinnamon, nutmeg, or cloves.
ALMOND MANGO PROTEIN SMOOTHIE
(vegan + gluten free + dairy free)
Time: 5 minutes
Serves 1-2 people
INGREDIENTS: Use organic whenever possible
ADD TO THE BLENDER IN THE ORDER LISTED:
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1/4 avocado
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1 tablespoon hemp hearts
- 1 tablespoon almond butter
- 2-3 medjool dates or 1 teaspoon raw honey
- 3/4 cup frozen mango chunks
- 1/2 teaspoon cardamom
- 1 cup purified water
- 4 ice cubes
- optional + recommended: one handful of raw spinach
- optional: one scoop vanilla protein powder
Place all ingredients in a high-speed blender and gradually blend from low speed to high speed for about 30 seconds. Then blend on high for another 45-60 seconds to make sure the dates are chopped up well.
This recipe has about 10 grams of protein. If you’d like more than that I suggest adding a scoop of clean protein powder (like USANA Nutrimeal Free). If your protein powder has a lot of sugar in it you can reduce or eliminate the dates/honey.
